Introduction
Lord Wojtek z Wizny (VOY-tek zuh VIS-nee) is a member of Østgardr. He is a heavy fighter, Brewer, and musician.
Persona
Wojtek is a lesser Polish nobleman and soldier circa 1415.
Wojtek was born in Wizna, Poland, in 1384. Wizna was a war-torn fortress, the first line of defense of the Masovian Voivodeship (the Duchy of Mazovia) against encroachment by Lithuanian and other Slavic tribesmen to the east.
Wojtek’s father, Szymon, was a guard and crossbowman employed by the village. He was born in the north, in the coastal city of Gdańsk, to a family of fisherman, but moved out of the city due to the oppressive regime of the occupying Teutonic Order.
When Wojtek was 10, his father was killed in a raid. His mother moved him back to the city of Gdańsk along with their younger brother, where Wojtek learned to fish with his extended family of Cousins and Uncles.
At 20, Wojtek slew a whale while spearfishing. The economic value of a whale carcass in the period was extremely high, but whales were considered property of the crown. Due to the conflicting claims to ownership of the City, Wojtek became embroiled in a conflict over the whale’s ownership after declaring that the Jogalian crown were the rightful owners of the whale, attracting the attention of both the Grand Duke Jogalia of Poland-Lithuania, and of the ruling Teutonic Knights. He became a trusted advisor to the Grand Duke and an active organizer amongst Polish sympathizers in Gdańsk, learning to read and fight from horseback. He was awarded a small fief outside the city, and a coat of arms befitting his rise to prominence: The whale on the sea of blue, and the checkers of red and white.
At 26, Wojtek’s actions against the Order culminated in the Battle of Grunwald, which was victorious for the Poles and resulted in their retaking control of the city. After the battle, he traveled around Europe in search of ancient secrets and powerful allies. A strange Greek book led him to dark secrets, which culminated in him founding a secret order in pursuit of his lofty goals. This House would spread compassion and strength amongst the lower classes, teaching them to rely on each other while undermining their reliance on Rulers.
