Rosina von Schaffhausen is a late 15th century woman living near the German/Swiss border who makes cord and trim in conjunction with her family's weaving business.

Offices & Awards

In the SCA, Rosina is the herald for the Shire of Quintavia. She is also the East Kingdom Jongleur Herald (Crown tourney list trees). Rosina is a member of the Order of the Laurel, and has also been inducted into the Order of the Maunche and the Order of the Silver Crescent, and Carolingia's polling orders for service (Daystar) and the arts and sciences (Moon). She has an Award of Arms, and was the Keeper of the Flame (service) of Quintavia along with her lord, Andreiko Eferiev, and the Keeper of the Chalice (arts). Rosina's past offices include Chatelaine and Gold Key of the Barony of Carolingia, and the Guildmistress of the Worshipful Company of Narrowworkers of the East Kingdom. She was apprenticed to Master Peregrine the Illuminator, OL.

Rosina was the coordinator for Thyra I's Princess favors, and has also served as lady in waiting for the reigns of Konrad I and Brenwen I, Darius IV and Alethea, Edward I and Marguerite, Edward II and Thyra, Edward III and Thyra II, and Ozurr and Fortune. She was recognized by Thyra II with the Golden Lyre and Seamstress to the Crown. She was also recognized by Alberich with the Golden Lyre.


Rosina's favorite things to do in the SCA are teaching and taking classes.

Rosina has taught a number of classes on the history of mathematics in period. Most of these classes are on Fibonacci, the foremost Western European mathematician of the middle ages. Several of these classes are based on Fibonacci's 1202 book Liber Abaci, including arithmetic, extracting roots, algebra, and his example problems. Another class is on Fibonacci's Book of Squares, and another on Fibonacci's Practical Geometry. Rosina has also written an article for the EK Gazette on Fibonacci. She has also taught a class on 3-D geometry in Renaissance art and science, as well as a class on applying modern classification techniques to period narrowwork designs.

Rosina has also taught a number of classes on fingerloop braiding at the basic, intermediate and advanced levels. She has taught several multiperson fingerloop braiding classes with her lord, Andreiko Eferiev, and with Thyra Eiriksdottir and Jeanne de Robin. Rosina has also taught a class on kumihimo once and a class on period drinking songs many times.

In addition to teaching and taking classes, Rosina enjoys running setup or class scheduling for events, dancing, singing, playing instruments including guitar, recorder and drums, thrown weapons, archery, knitting, and embroidery. She has also retained for Brenwen I, Alethea, Marguerite, Thyra I and II, and Fortune.

Victoria Sapko lives in east central Massachusetts with her husband and two cats in the best neighborhood on the planet. She has a Ph.D. in mathematics, and is a former mathematics college professor now working as a freelance statistician. Besides her activities in the SCA, Victoria also enjoys reading books and webcomics, playing board, card and role-playing games, volleyball, and swimming.
