Introduction

Good day, friend. If we have not yet met, I look forward to it.

I’ve lived a wide and varied life that I’ve done my best to take lightly. Ups and downs, happy moments and sad. I’ve travelled the globe as a musician doing the music thing in North America, Europe, and Africa. I’m the father to three sons who I’m very proud of, and I live mundanely north of Montreal in the Laurentiens, a mountain range in the fair barony of Ile du Dragon Dormant.

Like many, my SCA story has been one of constantly becoming. When I found the SCA by accident, and was pleasantly surprised to find friends of mine were already there. It made me feel welcome. I became a SCAdian thanks to friends I made over the next few years across the East. Lifelong friends are hard to find, but the SCA is a place to find them.

I love to fence and love to be with my friends in the fencing community. There is joy to be found in the song of steel, and I have enjoyed the camaraderie and friendly competition that is to be found in the East. When I was a more active fencer I answered the call to join the ranks of the Pennsic Rapier Champions from time to time and have done my best to contribute to Eastern fencing as a teacher. I’ve had some success as a tourney fighter, but prefer free-bout and learning about rapier to competition. While I still do fence, my focus has shifted to offering my learning to others so they can do what they will with it.

I’m also a bard, I fiddle, sing, and create. If you need something done, I might be able to help you. It doesn’t hurt to ask.

Persona

An Englishman, and a courtier in service to nobility in 1590, John was often found in Italy and the Lowlands. A friend to composers, especially William Byrd and Peter Philips, he was suspected to have Catholic leanings in Protestant England, which explains why he was so frequently abroad. Found where the music is, he has been known to participate in exhibitions of rapier from time to time. He is proficient with voice, viol, fiddle, and lute.

Interests

I’m hoping to learn more about leather working, woodworking, fletching, and day to day skills of Renaissance England. I have a source for inexpensive leather if you have need.
