Introduction

Jaime de Ignis was introduced to the SCA in 2019 by her current partner Rodrigue de Ignis. Coming from a dairy farm in a small rural town in Quebec, Jaime was always fascinated in the path of knighthood, and often reenacted famous scenes of movies on the back of her horse. Carving her first sword out of a 2x4 and painting it, she did cavalry charges with her cousins. Never in her wildest dream would she know there was an actual community where these fantasies came to life. Rodrigue introduced her to SCA, where she first met Lady Leana Doucet and took part in an equestrian activity in the Duché de Bicolline, for the event called Les Beltains. It was at this event she had also met Sir Reinhart Basarab Draculesti and more of the SCA family. Later on, Jaime would try her hand in armored combat; it was a fun experience, and with the skilled fighters in Montreal, she learned much, winning her first novice tourney at Pantheria and coming in 2nd at the world novice tourney at the Pennsic war. The pandemic eventually took over and this had halted her events in SCA. Then, once the pandemic had stopped, Jaime had returned to fighting, but this time trying her hand at Fencing. Again, following Rodrigue on his adventures, she got herself a rapier from a retired fighter. The rapier was nothing special, unbalanced, unstable, but as a kid that came from a place where swords were just sticks you found on the ground, this was a beginning. Jaime had attended practices, learning how to wield the rapier through spars and friends. She would then compete on her fourth time holding the rapier at Birka, coming in the top 10 bracket by the end of it; burning a deeper passion to the art of fighting. When the news of a rapier crown tourney came out, Jaime had started to train hard for the event, joining a HEMA club under the teacher André Hajjar, she learned much about herself and realized how much she enjoyed the art of fighting: its physical and theory parts alike. She also enjoyed teaching others the things she had picked up on her journey. Through the path to crown, Jaime had learned so much of the arts of defense that winning a crown tourney was not even the most important part of the journey, in fact, it was only the gateway to something more meaningful. Jaime loves horses, armor, and swords. They are the things that enrich her soul. If you ever see her, talk about your horse, talk about your sword or your favorite armored helmet style, ask questions about fighting and if you wanted to get into horse riding or fighting, she would be happy to help you get started.

Awards: Baronial champion for fencing and equestrian, purple mountain award, and the silver rapier.
