Coronation Script
The Coronation of Brennan IV and Caoilfhionn IV AS 57, April 2023 (At the conclusion of Last Court.) (Mo and Corotica are a Northern King & Queen, and summer is coming. They will express their desire to return to the battlefield) (wearing the Blue Tyger crowns)
Kirsa calls for Mistress Brid
Brid: Your Majesties, here is the way in which we can determine the future safety and prosperity of the kingdom, by choosing just and kind rulers. You must call forth the keeper of the traditions of investitures since time immemorial. We must have the oath stone, and the relics of the birth of civilization You must assert, upon the oath stone, your faith in the fitness of your heirs to rule as well as you have. We must have the affirmation of the appointed chiefs that they support the heirs and believe in their fitness to rule. We must have the oaths of the tanists themselves up on the stone and the relics, that they will uphold the fundamental precepts of the kingdom. We must know that the great officers of state and the elected chiefs will serve them as they have yourselves. And we must certainly have the acclaim of the populace. If we do these things properly, then the crops will come in due season, the herds will multiply, and the weather at Pennsic will be Sunny, Dry, and Pleasant.
M&C: “Thank you, Mistress Brid, for clear instructions of what we must do.”
Brid takes her leave
M&C: “ We call for the Brigantia Principal Herald, who by right of office should perform this inauguration ceremony”
Thyra comes before the thrones
M&C: Brigantia, you must guide the kingdom through this transition. You must see that it is done properly, so that lightning does not ruin the fields, nor wild animals eat the sheep!
Thyra: Your Majesties, it is my duty and honor.
Thyra takes up position behind the thrones.
Thyra: We will have the tanists here, now, to stand before this assembled gathering of officers, historians, poets, brehons, warriors, parents, children, and chiefs!
Procession of B&C Very simple, small procession line. No coronets. Perhaps the stone (who to carry?) and the relics ( Courtney can carry the relics, maybe? carried by the West heirs?) may be carried in at the beginning of the procession, so that the audience can see them as they go by? The bearers would come up on the stage and hand off the items to the heralds. B&C come before M&C.
M&C: can greet B&C if they want to have any personal words.
Thyra: Sultan Mohammed and Brenhines Corotica, you must give your oath in this court, upon this stone, which has come from the grounds upon which the First Crown Tournament in the East Kingdom was fought. It bears the memory of all the years of this kingdom, and will permit no false oaths to be made upon it. Place your hands upon it now.
Do you aver that Caoilfhionn is a true daughter of this kingdom, and thus carries the potential to rule this land and the necessary inspiration to elevate Brennan to rightful rule?
M&C: We do.
Thyra: Do you confirm that there is no stain or blemish upon your heirs that may prevent them from ruling this kingdom?
M&C: We do.
Thyra: We will have the Tygers of the East here, now, to stand before this gathering, and offer their wisdom and counsel upon this matter.
The Tygers come forward.
Thyra: Do you assert that Brennan and Caoilfhionn will preserve and maintain the dignity of their responsibility, which is to fulfill the office of ruler to their subjects?
Tygers: The keeping of these precepts makes a kingdom prosperous, and they will uphold their responsibilities.
The Tygers disperse, or can choose to stand to the sides to bear witness.
Thyra: We have heard the affirmations. By your own conduct, Caoilfhionn and Brennan, you have demonstrated dignity and learning, wisdom and strength. You have proven your inspiration and valor in fighting upon the tournament field, and your spirit of service before and after that day.
Those qualities have brought you to this court. Before you can take the oaths as Ardrigh
and Ardrígain, you must give your oaths as Tanists that you will use your inspiration and
your skill to uplift, protect, and promote the people of this kingdom. Place your hands
upon the stone now.
Thyra: Will you bear up patiently in adverse circumstances, not harbor anger, have those who are wise and compassionate as councilors, and pay no heed to the words of charlatans?
B&C: We will..
Thyra: Will you set good people in charge of the affairs of the kingdom, and not promote the wicked to high office?
B&C: We will.
Thyra: Will you tyrannize none through the exercise of power, and defend those who are in need of your protection?
B&C: We will.
Thyra: Your Majesties, you may now safely lay down the responsibilities of your station, and place upon the Tanists the mantle of authority.
Corotica and Mo remove the Blue Tyger crowns simultaneously, and pass them to the heralds. They receive the Ancient & Venerables and hold them. Mo holds his still, while Corotica places hers upon Caoilfhionn. Corotica steps to the side. Mo hands his crown to Caoilfhionn, and steps to the side. Caoilfhionn places the crown on Brennan.
Thyra: The inauguration is halfway complete. Before we continue, we must release those who have served this kingdom with amor, peace, and justice.
M&C come before B&C Heralds hand the helmets to B&C, who present them to M&C. Rattan weapons will also be handed over.
Thyra: You are returning to the populace, but you bear more responsibility to the Society than you did before. Corotica, you have not yet sat a vigil to contemplate the peerage, and you should do so now. Gives vigil information.
For the prosperous and peaceful reign of Mohammed and Corotica! Vivat! Vivat! Vivat!
M&C depart
Thyra: The stone has accepted your oath, but you must now further bind yourselves to the principles of the Kingdom and the Society in which we live.
Brings out the Earth
Thyra: Place your hands upon this reliquary, containing earth from the grounds of the first crown tournament. The earth supports and sustains every person in this kingdom, no matter their station, and provides the means for shelter and food. Remember this source of your sovereignty, deliver it forth to every corner of the kingdom, and be faithful to it.
B&C: We will.
Brings out the Water
Thyra: Place your hands upon this reliquary, containing water from the Bay of the Mists, in the first kingdom of this Society. The tides are cyclical, bringing water and salt, rain and storms, both essential and perilous. Defend this kingdom valiantly against adversaries in times of war, and build the wealth of this kingdom in times of peace, as each time comes in its turn.
B&C: We will.
Thyra: We have now heard the promises made by the A&A. We will have the Greater Officers of State here, now.
Officers come forward.
Thyra: Will you confirm whether you believe these oaths to be true?
Officers: I will.
Thyra: And will you continue to serve the Kingdom under this rule?
Officers: one by one, state “I, [name], [office], will continue to serve.”
Thyra: We have now heard the statements of the Greater Officers.
Officers depart
Thyra: We will have the sub-chiefs here, now, from all baronies and provinces.
Runnymede comes forward.
Thyra: Will you confirm whether you believe these oaths to be true?
Runnymede: We will.
Thyra: And will you represent these rulers to your people at home?
Runnymede: singly/in pairs, state “I/We will represent them to [name of barony/province]”
Thyra: We have now confirmed the peaceful transition of responsibility, that these lands may not experience strife.
Runnymede departs.
Thyra: We call upon all who are witness to these proceedings, who have heard these words spoken and who will determine their worth in each of the days to come, to give us your answer. Do you believe these to be your rightful and true rulers?
Populace: We do!
Thyra: “Behold how great a thing is the righteousness of good rulers in this world; it is most plainly to be seen and understood. Of it comes the tranquility of the peoples, the defence of the country, the protection of the subjects, the bulwark of the whole nation, the remedy of all sorrows and ailments, the temperateness of the weather, the stillness of the sea, the fruitfulness of the earth, the comfort and solace of the weary, and the rejoicing of the people.“
Thyra: The inauguration is complete, once more. The future of the kingdom is secure. Long live the King! Long live the Queen! Long live the Kingdom of the East!
