Introduction

Kendra attended her first SCA event in Trimaris (A.S. XXX) after overhearing, while on an extended vacation, "You mean the King and Queen are actually going to make it?!" That piqued her interest and opened her heart to a vibrant old world.

Years later, brought to Great Northeastern War (A.S. XXXIV) by a group of dear friends, she fell in love with the SCA and medieval history as a whole, but didn't dive in fully for several years.

Dabbling became so much more when the Riding of Ravensbridge developed into a closer place to play. Since then, the hobby has taken over and become a major part of her life.

Persona

Born in Delft to a painter and his muse in the early 1500s, Lady Kendra wanted to be an artist but just didn't have the skills with a paintbrush to follow in her father’s footsteps. She would never even be a tile painter, not that women were allowed to do so. She drifted from place to place in her teens, helping take care of life at home, where she developed a knack for tablet weaving and other fiber arts. She married young to a man who was part of the local Knitters Guild. While he came across as charismatic in person, she quickly learned that she would always be the butt of his jokes and the place he focused his ire for everything wrong in his life, no matter who caused the strife, usually himself. The marriage didn’t last long as he was killed two years into the marriage when he got drunk and fell into a canal in the middle of winter. No one thought it was a great loss, especially not Kendra. Being that he was part of the Knitters Guild, she was offered his spot, which was the way of things. She jumped at the chance to be a journeyman, to travel, to learn more about knitting, and to be away from the home that held so much anger and strife.

More Information

Interests and pursuits include:

  • Narrow Work - Inkle, Kumi, Fingerloop, iCord, Lucet, but especially tablet weaving and learning ALL the techniques. Focusing on monochromatic twist-twined, double-face, 3/1 twill, velvet, and brocade techniques of tablet weaving.
  • Knitting - Mickel inspired me to retry knitting after 30+ years, and I love it. Everything turns into a hat, so I'm working on medieval hats! I'm building an entire project on the Thrummed Hat and another on the Monmouth Cap. I've started posting on my blog about them.
  • Spinning - I'm trying every fiber I can get my hands on. So far - wool, alpaca, flax, nettle, hemp, bamboo, carbonized bamboo, banana, kapok, corn, dog, and human. You name it or hand it to me (please hand me fiber), I will try to spin it! I want to spin longwool for a Thrummed Hat!

Surprises are fine, please contact Aloysius Sartore, Margaret of Rochester, and Anne Meckil von Salm for scheduling, questions, or general shenanigans. ICOP: A writ is probably best to ensure everyone can attend.
