Introduction
An Dubhaigeainn Cook's Guild
History
Starting in March 2024, the various interested cooks, servers, brewers, bakers and assorted culinarians of the Barony An Dubhaigeainn came together to organize under the banner of a Baronial Cooks' Guild. After many months of work, the Guild was Chartered by their Excellencies An Dubhaigeainn, Baroness Hugoline the Delicate and Baroness Fiona The Volatile, at The Knowne World Comes to St Andrew's Event, held on November 9, 2024 in Huntington, NY, where the Guild prepared the Dayboard and Feast.
Guild name: Guild of Cooks of An Dubhaigeainn and badge: Azure, a duck displayed and on a base argent an orange slipped and leaved proper Approved on May 2025 LOAR.
Charter
The Charter reads: We, the undersigned members of the An Dubhaigeainn Cooks Guild, by the grace of the An Dubhaigeiann Baronial Coronet and the will of the goode gentles of whom we are a part, to all those that these present letters shall hear or see, greeting.
Forasmuch as after long, great and somewhat tolerable pains and labours taken by us since our inclusion within this Barony, for service thereof and keeping of the cooks of the same in quietness, we have not only been vexed in our spirit, body and senses thereby, but also at length are altogether so encouraged by the needs of our Barony, populace, and all those who would assist in the rendering of victuals that we can no longer let such needs go unanswered.
To that end we have made, named, appointed, constituted and ordained, and, by these our letters, name, appoint, make, constitute and ordain our said dearest kinsfolk, to our aforesaid Guild, the realm and lieges aforesaid and enumerated designs below, which are, by no means, exhaustive or all encompassing, for the duration of this compact or until all members are completely wearied thereof that their ability and strength of body is no longer able to endure the same or until such time as this Charter is rescinded by their Excellencies.
For clarity and so that none may mistake our goals, aims, and designs we do set them forth as such:
All members enter membership of the Guild as equals; we strive to share our knowledge, skills and diverse arts, and commit ourselves to learn from one another;
To study all the regions, lands, and realms of the world, whether knowne or unknown, with the intention of studying, honoring, and sharing them with others through the lens of said culture's food.
Acknowledging that food is more than mere sustenance, and recognizing the importance of the culinary arts when discussing culture we will endeavor to convey the importance and intentions of the various foods to the culture and context in which we find them.
Accepting that we, a guild chartered in the Barony of An Dubhaigeainn, a recognized and ongoing territory of the East Kingdom, must maintain the standards, policies, and laws of the aforesaid Barony and Kingdom as well as adhere to the governing documents of the Society we do:
Declare our intent to elevate the experience of dining in the Barony An Dubhaigheiann, through research, experimentation, and continuous improvement in our chosen arts and services;
Declare our intent to celebrate the diversity of our Barony, Kingdom and Society, extend membership to all those who would be interested in our designs, though showing preference to members of the Barony, and sharing our diverse arts, skills, and services in all things cooking and feasting related, so that we may all learn and none shall be required to serve endlessly;
Declare our intent to encourage the study of all cultures of the world from the earliest of human history and with the termination date of 1600, allowing for a gray period extending to 1650 aligning with SCA heraldic practices;
In order that this our commitment may, for all ages, remain valid and unshaken, we have ordered the present Charter to be written and to be sealed with the signatures of the landed Coronet, Baroness Hugoline and Baroness Fiona, on this the Ninth of November, Anno Societatis 59 at the event of The Knowne World comes to St Andrews in the Barony of An Dubhageainn.
Officers
All members of the Guild enter freely of their will, and all who join do so as equals. We rotate responsibilities among the Guild members, though we have no standing officers.
