Introduction

Sorcha Dhocair inghean Ui Ruairc joined the society around the year 2001 but did not become heavily active until she escaped her Island home to attend University in 2008. She is currently most heavily involved in the arts, being proficient in Caligraphy and Illumination, embroidery, and sewing. She has also started to dabble in tablet weaving, bone work, wood work, and metal work. Really she will try any craft she has the methods to do. She can also often be found entertaining gaggles of children.

She is apprenticed to Michel Almond de Champagne

She has been doing scrolls for the East Kingdom since 2012

She also spends much time researching all aspects of Ireland, but with a focus on clothing, further focusing on early period. you can see some of her research at her site: https://sites.google.com/site/troublesomecelt/

She has created a facebook group for all those interested in Ireland from 400 to 1100: https://www.facebook.com/groups/864110980332684/

Persona

Sorcha is the daughter of a fairly powerful clan leader on the north-west coast of Ireland in around 950,(approximately where Sligo is today). She is well versed in all of the household tasks of a woman such as spinning, weaving (both cloth and tablet bands) dying, sewing ect... She has also been interested in the work of the monks ever since she was taught reading and writing from a Psalter made at a nearby monastery. She also goes on a yearly trading trip to Clonmacnoise in the spring, and has once been all the way to the town of Dublin where she has some distant relatives.

Classes

Sorcha has previously taught classes on Irish Garb, embroidery, and celtic knotwork. She is happy to teach these at any event she is going to or on a one on one basis.
