Intro
The Barony of Smoking Rocks is located in the East Kingdom of the Society of Creative Anachronism covering Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and Islands. It is a founding signatory of the Confederation of the Fret.
Overview
Meaning: In days of olde the land of the barony was a major port for fishing and whaling. While at sea, sailors would witness boulders in the distance with plumes of smoke coming from them. The sailors would come back to port and tell tales of what they had seen from great beasts to those smoking rocks. Sailors would eventually learn that those rocks were the whales breaking the surface but the old sailors would still tell tales of the adventures around the great smoking rocks at sea.
Established: A.S. XI (July 1976) as The Shire of Smoking Rocks.
Investiture: A.S. XXXIX (June 2004) as Barony of Smoking Rock
