Introduction

Lady Sláine heard about the SCA in the Late 1980's in High School. She hung out mundanely with members of House Three Skulls. She did not join the Society until her then teenaged daughter was looking to continue fencing after the intra-mural season ended.

Persona

Changed Address frequently due to marriage to itinerant sailor.

No real time or place, but prefers comfort over fashion in clothing

Learned to Scribe as a way to get to know the important folk in new area, and ingratiate herself to same - in order to better provide for her children.

Pronounced Slay-nay bayn Row-nan meechk Robert

I am female and prefer feminine Pronouns. Call me Lady Sláine, or just Sláine

Favorite Activities at an Event

Sláine is a Protege, so in general she like to help. If she is on site and something needs doing, she will gladly assist, just ask.

She is a Beginner Scribe and Baby Herald... she can do shouty things

She is a former Baronial Chatelaine, (and everyone is a chatelaine) so can answer questions about the Society in general, and about her Barony in specific. She's also pretty good at finding someone who knows more about a given subject, and performing introductions.

She enjoys cooking and will help in the kitchen. She can peel, chop, & slice; general sous-chef type work.

Her go-to thing to do at any given event is to Retain for the Royals or Coronets. Loves to be able to see and hear everything that is going on in Court, and especially when there are "roving courts" or "fealty's on the fly." Loves knowing stuff, and finds this is one of the best ways to get the first hand knowledge

Court Will

Surprise me!!

Have in Court (ideally before I am called)

my Husband, Lord Ronan FitzRobert;

my Children, Lady Miriam Giant Slayer and Joel MacRonan;

my Pelican, Baron Master Ateno of Annun Ridge;

his Wife, Baroness Lassar ingen Aeda;

my Belt Sister THL Onóra ingheainn Uí Rauric

and the Coronet of An Dubhaigeainn

Or as many of them as possible.

Ok to be out of Home Barony, ask my Husband, Pelican, and/or Coronet to try to have as many Ducks present as possible. Very cool if being done at the same time as another elevation of a Duck... will help me believe that the local crowd at out-of-area-event is for them rather than for me. Also can be used as the reason for me to attend, (and vice versa)

In Case of Peerage

I read on Facebook that the more details given, the more likely I will be pleased should it ever come to pass.

I am NOT putting this in because I expect to be elevated, I am putting it in like I once made a list of what I would do if I won the Publisher's Clearing House...

Please Contact

  • My Husband AND
  • My Pelican AND
  • The Coronet of An Dubhaigeainn

Surprise me

in Morning Court to be put on Vigil that day.

Where Should It Happen

  • Home Barony of An Dubhaigeainn is always best
  • Ok to be out of my Home Barony
    • Ask my Husband, Pelican, and/or Coronet to try to have as many Ducks present as possible
    • Very cool if being done at the same time as another elevation of a Duck... will help me believe that the local crowd at out-of-area-event is for them rather than for me.
    • Also can be used as the reason for me to attend, (and vice versa)
  • At Pennsic would be AWESOME

Open Vigil

  • Inner Sanctum with space for me and up to 2 visiting advisors
  • Outer area
    • LOTS of food
    • Soft Drinks, my Peach Mead, and other alcohols as the Vigil-o-crat sees fit
    • Plenty of seating for those who are waiting, and those who are hanging out
  • Strict Bookkeeper for the waiting list, only sitting Royals can cut the line

Locale & Decor

  • For myself, and for everyone coming to advise me, I value comfort over style.
  • Find a place that has a good temperature, with adequate air flow (not stuffy,) and is safe from precipitation.
  • Comforable chairs are hard to find, try to have at least 3 (me and 2 guests) in the inner sanctum, and as many chairs of any kind in the outer area (as appropriate to the site)
  • Decorate with squirrels,... and ducks,.... maybe 1 wolf, & 1 boar too. Stuffed animals work, so do Decorative hangings a la "Tapestries"

Food

  • Whomever is cooking should make everything fingerfood.
  • I do not want anything that one needs to use a knife and fork to eat.
    • Spoons are ok, I love puddings and custards
  • No pork please
  • Have plenty of napkins on hand, maybe even wet-naps/babywipes
    • I hate it when food is messy and I can't clean up

Vigil Book

  • Yes, please
  • Decorate with a squirrel
  • Visiting Advisors please Sign in and also Leave Notes if they will
  • Have a section that is added in after the elevation which has my notes from during the vigil
    • Binding can be completed in days following event

Regalia

This is a WISH LIST. I will happily accept anything that someone desires to gift upon me.

  • I am very proud to wear the bling I currently have (Silver Wheel medallion and Yellow Belt as of AS 53) so my biggest thing is that
    • all regalia be 4 season...

Cloak

  • A pretty cloak is an awesome thing.
  • I would get a real kick out of attending EK Court at Pennsic for the next elevation and being able to comfortably wear my cloak for the whole ceremony
  • I also have no problem wearing my mundane winter coat under my cloak if the cloak alone is not warm enough at colder times of the year.

Hood

  • Yes, Please
  • Short tailed
  • Can be worn for warmth in cooler weather.
  • I am allergic to wool
    • Polar Fleece is fine with me

Medallion

I would love a medallion made by...

Cap of Maintenance

What Kind of Hat

  • a sun hat (not too floppy) or
  • a Linen Coif
    • (cause that's what I'm most comfortable wearing.)

But Wait...

  • these do NOT match the definition of a Cap of Maintenance,
  • but Artistic License?

Laurel Leaf Circlet

How Ornate

  • Simple and Elegant, but
  • Not Understated

What Material

  • Light weight but, not too maleable metal
  • Leather would also be cool
    • Designed to wear over a Coif or Sunhat, and directly on the head

Scroll

Who Should Craft It

What Should be on It

  • Squirrels are my totem animal (you don't say.)
  • Incorporating Ateno's Wolf and Cat, Lassar's Boar, Ronan's Dolphin, and/or An Dubhaigeainn's Duck would be icing on the cake.
  • I prefer the blue/purple end of the spectrum over the red/orange end.
  • I prefer the hands that are easy to read/write over the ones that are fancy and time consuming.

Have in Court for Elevation

Processional

  • Heralded by THL Jenna Childersley or Master Malcolm Bowman
  • Have the other one of them read the scroll.
  • Process in with the "Have in Court" from above, and as many others as want to.
  • Have my Husband sit with me in the Royal Presence.

Speakers

This is the Wish List of Speakers. If a given slot cannot be filled by these good folks, I trust my Pelican to make substitutions as needed.

Chivalry

Rose

Master of Defense

Pelican

Laurel

Populace

  • Any of the "Have in Court" from above, or any Duck that wants to
    • May be cut if court is running long,
      • Unless it is Husband, Daughter or Son that wants to speak for the Populace.
