Introduction

Serafima Medvednikova has been involved in the SCA since 2006, starting in the Kingdom of Trimaris before moving back to the East Kingdom. She started with archery, then found her love of heavy list fighting and, most recently, her love of embroidery work. She took a step back from the SCA full time in 2013 to pursue life-changing paths in Mundania, but has now returned to immerse herself in the SCA family once again.

It was at a heavy list fight practice in 2009 where she met William Spicer, another up and coming fighter. They became friends, then at A Market Day at Birka in 2010, during the heavy list bear pit tournament, William offered the very novice fighter a cup of water as a gesture of friendship. With that, they spent the rest of the day together, perusing the merchants and talking about very random things. About a month later, he offered her the idea of a courtship, which she responded, "what the hell, let's try it." Six years later, at that same event, he surprised her with a ring and asked for her hand in marriage. Speechless, she didn't answer right away, but began crying, earning him the look of contempt from a nearby Eastern knight who had missed the proposal and only saw a lady crying. Before he could step in, Serafima said yes with a joyous smile on her face. She looked up in time to see the angry knight and reassured him that she was all right, that he had just proposed to her. His look of contempt was immediately replaced with a smile and a word of congratulations. In October of 2017, she and William were married, surrounded by close friends and family.

Persona

Serafima is a 10th century Russian woman, a member of the personal guard of Queen Regent Olga of Kiev. She was discovered while fighting in the bear pits in the underground of Kiev by the Royal Captain of the Guard. Seeing her ferocity in the fighting ring, the captain offered her a chance to make more money while honing her skills within the walls of the palace. Since she was one of the few women being trained to fight with the men, the Queen Regent took an interest in her, and, after meeting with the woman, requested that Serafima accompany her as a royal bodyguard. The Queen Regent's reasoning was, "no one would dare suspect a well-dressed woman for a seasoned guard." When not giving and taking bruises from her fellow sword brothers, she has discovered that sitting quietly with Her Majesty while working on embroidery projects helps calm her mind and keeps her inner demons quiet.

In Case of Court

Please surprise me. I love surprises. If I am scheduled to receive an award, please let the good gentles that are friends with me know so they can coerce me into going/staying for court. I usually do stay for court if I attend a Royal Progress. It's only in case of emergencies or if Life intervenes that I will not attend court.
