Introduction

Lady Mairghread (Molly) Huntley attended her first SCA event in the Florida Keys in 1996 after overhearing "You mean the King and Queen are actually going to make it?!" That piqued her interest and opened her to a vibrant old world. As interested as she was, it took a number of years of life getting in the way before a group of close friends, most of which she'd known since middle school, dragged her to the Great Northeastern War (A.S. XXXIV). For a number of years, GNEW was her only event, that is until she and Aloysius Sartore came together (A.S. XLIII), and they turned their hobby into something much more. Mairghread has since discovered shooting the crossbow and tablet weaving. You might not recognize her face, as many only see the top of her head as she weaves, but she's always accompanied by her Service Dragon who is known far and wide.

Mairghread earned the Order of the Silver Brooch at GNEW 30 for her tablet weaving.

More Information

Interests and pursuits include:

  • Tablet Weaving - Learning every little bit I can and how each extant piece was created, right down to the exact fibers and widths, along with what was used for the weft, and why.
  • Knitting - Swore I'd never trying knitting again, but Mickel inspired me and I've not been able to stop learning each stitch as I go.
  • Naalbinding - I'm just starting out, and don't really have a handle on it yet, but I know I will figure it out with more practice.
  • Spinning - I had been seeing out someone willing to spin the fur from my service dog, but now that person will be me. I'm trying each and every fiber I can get my hands on - wool, alpaca, flax, nettle, hemp, cotton, bamboo, corn, dog, etc.
  • Embroider - Starting with blackwork, or, single color work as it really is.
  • Stamping - Not big on stamping paper, but love that I can create something unique to make my garb stand out.
  • All things fiber related - Learning as I go, and not sure what else there is, but I'm sure it's out there, and I know I'll find it.
  • Archery - Specifically crossbow!
