Introduction

Magnus hvalmagi (called Magnus the Stout) joined the SCA in May 2010 (at the insisting of his lady Finnguala), attending the War of the Roses in Concordia as his first event.

As the nickname may suggest, Magnus enjoys brewing of all sorts - beer is his specialty. He is also a storyteller and poet in the skaldic tradition. He is apprenticed to Master Toki Redbeard, is a resident of the Vestfell Farmstead, and resides in the Barony of Concordia of the Snows.

As the nickname may further suggest, Magnus likes to play around with cooking, and is known for having ample, tasty meat.

He was given his Award of Arms on 11/5/2011 by their Majesties Gregor III and Kiena; in a masterful display of trickery, his Boss and sister got him to unknowingly write some of the words for the award scroll.

In the mundane world, Peter Olsen is a food safety microbiologist working for a government regulatory agency. He is particularly interested in sensible food production practices, adequate and accessible food safety communication, and the debunking of various public health myths - including many tied to food.

Peter's other interests include tabletop gaming (board games, pen-and-paper RPG's, card games, etc), electronic gaming, metal music (the louder the better!), cooking, baking, beer brewing, meat curing, and driving too fast.

Persona

Magnus' family fled Norway in 925 to get away from the tyrant Harald; following in the steps of many other, they settled in Iceland. Magnus was born in 982 in southern Iceland.

Magnus is a pagan who strives very hard to preserve the old traditions. He doesn't have a problem with Christianity per se - he just sees very little need to change his outlook on life.
