Introduction

Pani Magdalena Gdanska, AoA

Persona

I am a 16th Polish noblewoman, the Szlatcha. I inherited a county manor home outside of Krakow although my ancestors came from the area around Gdansk. I am a widow due to war. I follow in the tradition of St. Jadwiga and help the poor by offering a place to stay and food to eat, as long as they contribute to the work of the manor. I learned to write icons from an itinerant monk from Moscow. Teaching me was his payment for staying at the manor. You "write" icons because they tell a story like letters and words. I enjoy cooking and do most of the cooking at the manor. I like to read. I process the wool from the sheep raised on the manor too.I can write and I dabble a bit in calligraphy and illumination. I saw the need for support of those with mental and emotional disorders and started a support group, "The Sanctuary of St. Dymphna."
