Introduction

Don Lorenzo Gorla is a resident of the Barony of Iron Bog. He is a member of the Tadcaster Militia, and serves the house as the official Scapegoat. He takes delight in unarmored combat (with rapier, longsword, and sidesword), and studies historical combat. His other studies include the history and legality of dueling, and the culture of swordsmen in the 16th century. He's been known to take time out to dance, and, if cornered, write poetry.

Lorenzo is a former apprentice/protegee to Mistress Alys Mackyntoich.

Persona

Lorenzo is a native of Venice. His family made their fortune with the Vento-Papal alliance during the War of the League of Cambri. By the time Lorenzo was an adult, however, the family's fortunes were squandered.

Lorenzo moved to London in 1570, expecting to earn a fortune teaching the Italian languages, dance, and other courtly arts. He began to earn a living teaching swordsmanship and eventually opened a school of defense. After a meeting with a number of armed representatives of the "The Company of Maisters of the Science of Defence of the City of London," Lorenzo paid the appropriate dues and joined their organization.

Lorenzo has served as the Rapier Marshal In Charge and A&S Coordinator for multiple Iron Bog events, and teacher of classes for new marshals, new fencers, and introductions to historical arms throughout the East.

Multiple demos across the Southern Region: emcee, marshal, organizer of marshal and some A&S activities.

Projects & Publications

Lorenzo has run classes, delivered lectures, and written articles and papers on introducing SCA participants to the study of historical arms. His classes and lectures were delivered at various events through the Southern Region, the Known World Academy of Rapier, and the Known World A&S Schola. He delights in teaching historical arms, and encouraging its study throughout all martial disciplines.
Lorenzo ran several rapier marshal-in-training meetings on-line, and is currently writing a training curriculum for new rapier marshals.

In Case of Court

Lorenzo asks that he be warned ahead of time in case of court. He is happy to accept both virtual and in person awards.
