Family History

The MacCullan Clan (of Scotland) was founded by Leon O'Cuileann in the 6th century. It is written that the O'Cuileann's were from Ireland and claim mythical ancestry. Leon was, as it is written in his accounts, a holy-warrior bound to (St) Columba as his personal guard to ensure his welfare. Leo claims to have saved his life during a battle in Northern Ireland before Columba's departure to Iona. He was, as it was known, called The "Lion of Iona", and hence the lion head on the MacCullan's coat of Arms. His future clan settled in the lands of the Dal Riata, hence where they sill hold claim today.

Backstory

Leo MacCullan was born on August 8th 1573. He is the 5th son of Lord Albert "The Lesser", son of Baron Albert "The Great", at Caisteal na Nighinn Ruaidhe ("The Red Keep") on Loch Avich, in the Western Highlands of Scotland. As the youngest, his duty to his family obligated him to the church to continue in the ancient tradition. Education was granted to him starting at an early age, but as a head strong youngster he was more interested in exploring and playing "rough and tumble" in the wilderness and highlands. Following his duty he joined the clergy at age 18, and was ordained as a priest on Mid-summers 1599. He then cloistered at Castle Inverness as a soothsayer and healer. This position brought his family much contentment, but his adventurous ways never left his heart. After many years of studying the mysteries of the divine, his heart heeded the call of adventure. Leaving in the dead of a summer's night 1513, never to look back upon his monastery, castle or family, he joined in with the local highland (Black) "Watch" regiment. For 4 years he patrolled the highlands for bandits and scouting for invading forces from England after the failing of the "Treaty of Perpetual Peace". This life still was not enough for his adventurous heart. In the autumn of 1616 Leo resigned his commission of the Watch to seek his fortune on his own. While traveling in Edinburgh he met up with a "Free-Company of the Sea" and quickly joined their ranks. This was the life for Leo, sailing and seeking Glory, Honor and Wisdom!

Persona

Leo is a confident and a bit of a stubborn warrior priest. He follows his heart and passions often. Several have commented that he is "a bit cocky". This is not without reason, as an accomplished warrior and priest he has found much success on and off the field of battle. His manner and style of dress is a bit anachronistic, out of "period", as a 17th c. Jacobite Highland Warrior.
