==Introduction==
The wars of summer are over, and our brave warriors have returned home with tales of glory, and songs of triumph and heartbreak.  We will raise a mug to those we have lost, and regale each other with their deeds.  In this quiet time before the crops are harvested, wood is stacked and animals slaughtered in preparation for the long winter to come, the Barony of Stonemarche invites one and all to join us around the fire and share the stories and songs of the summer.

==Highlights==
Harper's Retreat was originally created as a bardic event, where singers, storytellers, musicians, and all other performers could practice and demonstrate their arts. By day, classes on all manner of subjects are held, while individuals and groups practice for the evening's entertainment.

Saturday night holds the annual Bardic Competition, whereat their Excellencies, the Baron and Baronness, select a Baronial Bard from amongst the evening's performers; and from amongst those martially-inclined, their Excellencies also make a point of selecting a Warrior Bard.  Sunday evening holds the "Open Mic" Bardic event, normally held outdoors by the fire, where anyone and everyone is encouraged to entertain.

In recent times, the weekend has also played host to tournaments in all manner of martial activities, including archery, thrown weapons, armored combat, and fencing. By tradition, their Excellencies select champions from competitors in each of these endeavors; those selected are then responsible for organizing the following year's competitions.
