The name Glenn Linn was regestered in May of 1989 (via the East) and is Gaelic for "valley of the waterfalls" -- which is appropriate for Glen Falls, where this shire was given birth. The device of Vert, on a pale between two laurel wreaths argent, two pallets wavy azure, was regestered for the Shire in October of 1989. These arms are a heraldic representation of the its name, the green (vert) being the valley and the blue (azure) curves on the white (silver) background represent the waterfalls. And every shire in the kingdom must have a representation of the laurel wreath which stands for its ties to the kingdom. | The name Glenn Linn was regestered in May of 1989 (via the East) and is Gaelic for "valley of the waterfalls" -- which is appropriate for Glen Falls, where this shire was given birth. While the SCA (and this Wiki) only recognizes the founding date of a group from when it first becomes a fully recognized by the Kingdom (April of 1990 in the case of Glenn Linn), the actual founding of the Shire occured in November of 1988 when the initial slate of officers held an open interest meeting at Crandall Library in Glens Falls NY. It was it this meeting that the Shire of Glenn Linn was organized and established. Three months after this meeting, in February of 1989, Glenn Linn first appears in the Pikestaff, listed as an incipient shire. The founding members chose this date, the first listing in the Pikestaff, as the official Birthday of the Shire. Of course, the history of the group began several months earlier... | |||

Intro
The Shire of Glenn Linn, originally part of the East Kingdoms Western Region, now lies within the Kingdom's Northern Region. The Southern border of the Shire is in fact the border of the Central Region of the Kingdom. When the question of Æthelmearc leaving the East and becoming a kingdom was decided, all the local groups that had been part of the western region, but did not choose to become part of Æthelmearc, were given the option of what region they would join. Glenn Linn proudly chose to become part of the North. Today, the Shire is comprised Warren County, Washington County, and parts of Hamilton County, Essex County, Rensselaer County, and Saratoga County and includes 65 zip codes.
