Introduction

Gerhardt von Hohensee joined the Society in A.S. 47, and picked up the rapier in A.S. 51.

He is known for his emphatic disapproval of certain French tactical maneuvers.

Excerpt from "A Criticism of Popular Dueling Methods"

There is a particular trend I have observed among the French youth, of attacking an opponent's foot; and while occasionally successful (in a manner of speaking), I cannot recommend this tactic against any serious opponent; or against anyone wearing shoes, for that matter. For while a barefoot peasant may be prone to such pedary offense, a respectable master of the German or Italian schools will be quick to punish the offender.

Italian Endorsement

Evidence suggests that Gerhardt is a proponent of Italian methods.
