For Duchess Katherine

Beloved Duchess, Tyger of the East:
Summer's distillation, gentle light,
Ever gentle both to man and beast.
Never speaks a word of scorn or slight.
Friend of horses and their riders gay,
Of those who bend the bow and loose the yards,
Gladly toils at the clerk's assay,
Keeps the lists, the coins, the keys, the cards.
Her harp-strings softly sings by fire's light
Drawing gentles nigh with music sweet
But none esteems her more than her own knight -
Without her, he knows he is incomplete.
Honors has she won, and great renown.
But none more than her love, her head to crown.
