fair reader, my name is Elizabeth Ivette and I am a spinner and weaver in London, in the year 1350-51. I am the daughter of a master weaver, John Othneil, who left his shop to me upon his death. Shortly after my fathers death, I married a master weaver in the guild and the shop became his. We have been happy and prosperous. However, tragically, death has taken my husband and several of the good souls who worked for him. As I take this year to mourn his death, I run the shop to settle our debts and contracts. The largest of these contracts is with the household of Elizabeth de Burgh, Lady of Clair, for whom we weave large quantities of cloth for her retainers.
