Cormac was born in the region of Galloway to Kieran and Bruinnach Longstrider.  Working on his father's ship as they traded all over the North Sea and Mediterranean, he came to work for a short time as a Varangian in Miklagard (Byzantium) alongside his brother-in-law, Argus.  When Argus returned to Novgorod,  Cormac went with him and settled in the Gotenhof as a clerk for the Hansa.
