Introduction
Duchess Caoilfhionn inghean Fhaoláin (pronounced KEE-lin IN-yen FAY-lin) has been a member of the society since November, 2001
She served as Consort of the East four times beside her husband, Syr Brennan mac Fearghus, Sovereign by right of arms.
Persona
4th century Irish in the time of the Roman Empire. Caoilfhionn was the niece of a clan chief who sought help from the Romans that had occupied their neighbors in Britain. In exchange for military assistance against enemy clans, the chief sent some clansmen across the Irish Sea to the Roman outposts in Britain. Caoilfhionn was sent off as part of this deal and married off to the second son of one of the noble/upper class families.

Accomplishments
- Kid's Service Initiative (Brennan I & Caoilfhionn I, Edward III & Thyra II, Omega V & Etheldreda IV, Brennan II & Caoilfhionn II) began as an idea during her reign in 2014, and continued through several of the following reigns. This is basically a service scavenger hunt with points assigned to activities based on the time/effort of each. Children with 10 points or more collected a small prize and were recognized in court.
- "Silver Awards" (2015-2016) Upon advice from the incomparable Alys Mackyntoich, Caoilfhionn and Brennan decided to introduce a new tier of awards, based on the Silver Rapier. Caoilfhionn supervised the project; Alys and Yehuda workshopped the names and heraldry for the new orders.
- Kingdom Champion Badges and Regalia (2016-2017) Kingdom champions all had different regalia for their discipline, but nothing uniform that would identify them easily by sign as Champions. Idea hatched by Caoilfhionn, and executed by a team of dedicated and talented people. The first step was to register formal badges for each champion. Yehuda developed and submitted the badges, and Duchess Eikaterine spearheaded the creation of the regalia, completed and distributed in 2017, under Ioannes I and Honig I.
- Southern Army heraldry (2016) The Southern Army did not have registered heraldry as the Northern Army did. Caoilfhionn and Ryou workshopped different ideas based on the "Southern Cross" constellation (idea by Ryou) as an echo of the North Star used by the Northern Army. Worked with Yehuda to submit and pass two badges: (Fieldless) Five mullets of six points conjoined in cross Or and Azure, five mullets of six points in cross Or.
- Gender Neutral EK Laws (2018) Spearheaded a team to painstakingly review EK law and remove/revise instances of gendered language.
- Rapier Zoom Chats and Classes (2020 - 2021) When the whole world shut down in 2020, Caoilfhionn as Rapier General and her XOs (Magdelena, Xavier, & Morwill) began brainstorming ideas to keep the army trained and engaged, using the scenarios negotiated by the Crown for that war. The trainings were held weekly on Tuesdays, and the leadership team met on Sunday evenings to discuss and finalize the agenda for the next virtual meeting. The Once Pennsic was cancelled, these weekly meetings evolved into a mix of panel discussions, classes, and roundtables. One meeting per month was focused on building understanding and comradery between the Armored and Rapier communities, discussing topics including practice culture, the impact of gender on the training and fighting experience, command structure, and others.
- Duchess Bardic Night (2015 - present) Hosted in VDK camp at Pennsic, this has become an annual staple event, with many members of Duchy Drachenklaue pitching in to create a magical night. This event is "bardic for the masses," designed as a performance space where new and seasoned performers alike can share their talent, works, and passion free from the pressures of competition and judgement, with an eye towards entertainment over period accuracy (though both are welcome). Caoilfhionn created the event in the summer of 2015. She had written a song the previous year, and was too intimidated by the perceived seriousness of "traditional" bardic circles and events to perform it. Knowing there are some others who undoubtedly feel the same, she continues to encourage and invite artists of all experience levels to participate, facilitating introductions and dialogue in a low-pressure environment.
- Rapier Army Glossary (2020 - present) Supervised the creation and maintenance of the (East Kingdom Rapier Army Glossary. This is a collaborative work and a living document, touched by many hands. (if you have edits, please email Caoilfhionn).
- Event Report Deputy (June 2019 - present) Filled a newly-created role under the Exchequer. Created and maintain a large database to track multiple aspects of EK events and facilitate reporting attendance, financials, and other data as requested. Check event reports for errors and report any to the hosting group's exchequer and the event steward. Follow up on missing reports. With the blessing of the exchequer, in process of creating a new Event Report format to allow for more uniform data collection and reporting.
- Pennsic Champions Regalia (2024 - present) Overview of project can be found here: EK Pennsic Champions Regalia project. With the help of many generous volunteers (list forthcoming), we successfully created enough regalia that all of the East Kingdom Pennsic Champions at Pennsic 51 were able to display the heraldry. For her part, Caoilfhionn ordered fabric samples to match to the existing tabards, ordered bolts of the matched fabric, created an order form for the Champions and potential champions to fill out, collected the money from those who purchased items, ensured that items were handed out at Pennsic, kept a list of who borrowed from the Kingdom and checked borrowed items out and in.
